Human Strength (and the faith we place in it)
“Cast your lot” This old man spoke,
“Roll the die. Make your fate.”
And so he threw and the dot came back.
It takes faith in yourself,
To try only on your own,
From what I’ve seen of myself,
I wouldn’t bet half a crown.
There are some who love me,
To my great surprise,
There are some who long to see,
My name among the dusts,
But it won’t be me who,
Gathers my frail life up,
There’s nothing I can do,
Not to help, just to submit.
“It’s not a lot; that single dot”,
“But it can’t be taken back now”,
Sadly, dear one, it could be exchanged.
